Head Start is a free federally funded program for preschool children from income-eligible families.  Mid-Sioux Opportunity Inc operates a Head Start program in a classroom at the Akron Children’s Center.  Some children enrolled in the Head Start program also stay at the Center for child care programs before/after school and during breaks.

Children who attend Head Start participate in a variety of educational activities.  They will receive medical and dental support, have healthy meals and snacks, and enjoy playing indoors and outdoors in a safe setting.

Head Start provides children with activities that help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally, and physically.

The children spend time in stimulating classroom settings.  They form good habits and enjoy learning and working on tasks with classmates.  Your child will leave Head Start more prepared for Kindergarten, excited about learning, and ready to succeed.  Opportunities are also available for children with special needs and families who are over-income.  Classes run Monday through Friday, September through May.
